FEATURED  INTERVIEW -

13.   I can’t resist going back even more in your history and ask you about a reference point of your career the superb “To Dimension Logic” with Vauxdvihl. What do you remember from these days?

A – We had some great times.  The majority of the time was fantastic but we were always an incomplete band.  We never found a full time singer so we could never really forge ahead as we would have liked, which created tension within the band.  I think we wrote some really good music together and I am very fortunate to have been involved in an album that is so widely respected. It’s a pity we couldn’t keep things together.  I think at the time we had no idea that the album was so highly regarded.  We put that album out when the internet was in it’s infancy so it was much harder to gauge public reactions.  It wasn’t until much later that we began to understand the impact we had made and by then it was too late.  I still have a lot of respect for all the other guys in the band at the time, they were really great musicians and it was great experience from my point of view.

14.  Had you ever imagined how big was the size of this album in some circles of the underground progressive metal? After all those years, how do you feel about it?

A- I still get e-mail about that album all these years later and I still get questions about whether there is a possibility that we would reform with that lineup and do another album.  As I said I had no idea the album had done so well but I am so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of it.  There were some really hard times but in amongst the conflict there was some really unique music being written.  I still really like the album, it has dated a little over the years but the mood and the vibe of the music is still great and the songs themselves have stood the test of time.

The Apparatus

“Overall, this album comes highly recommended to those who can handle some variation in their musical diet. A tolerance for "fringe" thinking might help too . . . . . . . . In fact, those who fail to do so will find themselves missing out on one of the genre's most compelling releases of 2010.”

FEATURED E-MAIL  -

Hey there Eddie!

Just a quick one to wish you (and your family) the best of health in the new year!

Also, and more to the point, I wanna tell you that for me personally your Permafrost Dreams album has been THE highlight of the year!
As I may have told you, I started working with an mp3-player late last year (ehrm...late 2007, that is), ripping the albums I have to review onto that handy little thing so that I can listen to music whenever I'm about (I used to do that with a portable cd-player, but the sheer size of that was often encumbersome...also the cd had a tendency to skip quite regularly due to small shocks - even though they're supposed to be shock resistant).

Well, after having made the review for your album, I had let it stay on the mp3-player, just in case I would get the chance to listen to it again on a slow moment with the website. Another band for which I did that was Italy's Mainline...but only for about 6 months! Well, as it turns out...and quite in spite of the fact that I've had to review a total of 508 album over the whole of the year, there was indeed some occasional time to listen to your album all over again...and occasionally I even had enough time to give the album two listening sessions in a row (just like I'll be able to do this very night!)!

Now usually, after having listened to an any album a certain amount of times, I tend to get...bored ain't really the word for it, so let's say I grow sufficiently accustomed to it to be able to store it away both in the collection and memory! And I have to say...I'm still not ready to do that where Permafrost Dreams is concerned! You know, I am still enjoying that album like as if it was the first time I got the grasp of it, and I'm still trying to "catalog" all the little details in my mind, I'm still trying to get what those other radio commentators are talking about in the background during Darryl's exposé on the Zionist enemy (usually I get lost after a while, because some musical detail tears me away from my concentration).

In other words, if I were asked to actually make "Best Albums Of 2008" lists (it would have to be several lists, as it would be unfair not to make a list for each sub-genre I'm forced to dabble in), there would be only one on top of 'em all, no matter what...and most deservedly so indeed, because no other album I have listened to (in all of my 47 years of existence) has ever been able to keep my attention for that long!

Right...having said that, how's life treating you these days, my dear friend from Down Under? Hope the last year has been good for you and your family! How's the next Mech Org album coming along? I mean...I simply know you've been working on something new already...because people with the kind of creativity like yourself are bound to keep themselves occupied with new projects all the time! It's part of our lives like the need for breathing and feeding!
By the way...I would be very interested to listen to one of your meditation recordings (Pathway To Perfection, wasn't it?). If you could manage to include a such disc - might even for review on the website, you know, because I am far from choosy when it comes to the promotion of music - in the promo package for a next Mech Org album, that would be so appreciated!

Well, signing off for the moment, and again sending you the warmest greetings (where at the moment
temperatures vary form -10°C to -19°C for the coldest winter in the area since...oh well, some 20 years or so)

Your pal/ fan from Belgium,

Tony
