Mechanical Organic - Flat Earth Society [Aug. 10th, 2006|09:05 pm]

Flat Earth Society is the debut album by the group Mechanical Organic.

The personnel on this album are: Eddie Katz – Lead vocals and keyboards,
Connie D – Lead/Rhythm/Synth Guitar, Laurence Belviso – Drums & percussion.

How does one describe Mechanical Organic in 200 words. I went through a lot
of my records just to see if there were any bands which had a similar sound.
To this day I have found none, the closest I came was a mixture of a
couple.

Imagine for one second Ministry’s primal industrial beats. Then add the
vocal melodies and style of Dead Soul Tribe. The keyboards and samples are
reminiscent of mid nineties Front Line Assembly. The lead guitar/guitar
synth is very unique creating dark melodies like in Hacking Humanity.

The thing I commend the most are the bleak and gritty lyrics. This isn’t a
band making a concept album about distant planets, but about what is
happening here and now on planet earth. Album closer What They Must Not
Know gave me the goose bumps. It reveals many subjects eg. royal
bloodlines, water fluorination, pesticides, media witch-hunts and the FDA to
name but a few.

No matter how hard I tried to listen to this album whilst on the move (eg.
whilst traveling to and fro from work) I just could not get into it. To
truly enjoy the Mechanical Organic experience you need to be in a quiet room
with no hurry, because this album lasts for 77 minutes. That way you can
experience the rich tapestry of sound they create.

Whether Mechanical Organic make the big time as prog metallers or industrial
rockers is, I think a matter of their choice. If I were a betting man, I
would wager that the big time in one or the other genre is theirs for the
taking. That is if the metal punters are ready for such an experience.
